V50 Data Recorder

To call a V50 Recording/Playback module a data recorder is somewhat of a misnomer. The V50 does not record. It is the V-Net modules that the V50 controls that do the actual recording and storing of data. But when this system is put into operation it behaves much like a data recorder, so who are we to argue when others want to call it a data recorder. Hence we include it here in the data recorder section.

A V50 system will allow you to record up to 32 channels of digital or analog information. This data can be displayed in a number of manners. The first is through any Intelli-Gauges that may be part of the V-Net system. This data is displayed in real time. By connecting the V50’s accompanying keypad you can also recall any recorded data for display on the Intelli-Gauges. The recorded data can be replayed in real time, fast forward, fast backward, step forward, step backward, or you can just look at the minimum and maximum levels that were observed during the recording period.

The V50 Recording/Playback module also makes it possible for your V-Net system to communicate with a laptop or PC. By installing the Racepak DataLink Data Analysis software in your PC, and connecting the V50 to the computer with a serial cable, the system will display real time or recorded data on the screen. Real time displays can accommodate up to ten monitored functions, while recorded data has no limit on the number of functions that can be displayed. Real time displays are done through a dynamometer-style gauge and graph screen view, while the recorded displays utilize the popular DataLink graph and numeric screen image.

Sampling rates for a V50 system are user programmable at either 10 or 25 samples per second.  Real time display has no time limit, but recording data for display at a later date will be limited by the sample rate chosen. At 10 samples per second you will have 800 seconds of recording time available, while 25 samples per second will yield 320 seconds of recording time.

Due to their modular expandability the V50 systems have proven extremely popular as so-called starter systems. Someone new to data acquisition can purchase a bare bones minimum system, then add to its capability as their needs or budget dictates.
