PRO 2 DATA RECORDER

When it comes to data acquisition in harsh environments this is the recorder against which all others are compared. If you want to talk harsh environment you need to look no further than the conditions surrounding the supercharged, nitromethane-burning, dual 44 amp magneto-fired, Top Fuel Dragsters and Funny Cars. Not only do these 7000 horsepower cars have a need to monitor an immense number of functions, but they also have to do it in an environment that is hostile to the transfer of electronic signals.  That is why we are especially proud that the overwhelming majority of these cars throughout the world utilize the Racepak Pro 2 for their data acquisition. Time has taught these racers that Racepak is the one recorder capable of reliably and efficiently monitoring their data.

Just because the Pro 2 data recorder is capable of performing in adverse conditions doesn’t mean that they are limited to the fuel cars. Other applications, where there is a need for some of the Pro 2’s special features or a wide array of channels, also use this recorder.  The Pro 2 can handle just about anything you can throw at it.  The basic package has the ability to monitor engine RPM from two magnetos (pickups and fiber optic cables are included), up to 12 hardwired digital/RPM channels (a drive shaft RPM sensor kit is included), 8 exhaust gas temperatures (thermocouple probes, junction boxes, & cables are included). You can record up to 16 total analog functions with the purchase of the Pro Analog Transducer Boxes and the appropriate transducers. The base recorder also contains an internal battery, and a battery charger is included.

This recorder has a great cast of optional supporting equipment waiting for your selection. Typical of these are the RPM Module and Timing Module. These two components, which are detailed elsewhere on this site, are used for the purpose of either expanding the capabilities of the Pro 2, or simplifying the manner in which sensors are connected. The RPM Module is used as a junction box when adding additional digital/RPM sensors and channels to the Pro 2. The Timing Module is employed when upgrading to the ability to track ignition timing.  It too can be used to add digital channels when not being used for ignition timing purposes.

The Pro Dash is another popular accessory of the Pro 2. This compact display dash is capable of displaying up to 36 different monitored functions on it’s three screens. Pro Dash users can program the dash so that only the items they want to see are displayed on the scrollable screens. Although they are most commonly spotted in the cockpit of the cars, making you think they are primarily used by the drivers, it is the crew chiefs that make the most use of these dashes. The Pro Dash is available for use with Pro 2 recorders only.

Another item exclusive to Pro 2 users is integrated video. Racepak now has the capability to incorporate video images right alongside the graphs on the DataLink software. Now you can actually view an event happening at the same time as you are monitoring its occurrence. Please call the Racepak Technical Department for further information on the integrated video.

Information gathered by the Pro 2 is viewed by uploading it to a PC. This is accomplished by transferring the files with a data cartridge. DataLink data analysis software displays all recorded data in a graph and numeric format. Due to the type of applications that employ the Pro 2 special software and download packages have been created for this purpose. These software and download packages are shown below.

The Pro 2 is capable of sampling data at speeds up to 100 times per second, with a recording time of 200 seconds. It weighs 2 pounds, 8 ounces. Dimensions are 1.790” high x 8.780” long x 5.110” wide.
