DIGITAL WIRING HARNESS INFORMATION
The V300 and V500 data recorders employ a wiring
harness on their digital port. This harness is used to access the signals for
the engine RPM, driveshaft RPM, clutch input shaft RPM (if required), and the
button to enable the recording function (if used). The 12 volt power for the
recorder is also sourced through this five wire harness.
Racepak can customize the lengths of the five
individual wires of the digital wiring harness for each application in which
the V300 or V500 recorder is being used. In order to do this the user must
supply Racepak with the length required on each of these wires. If you are
ordering a V300 or V500 recorder please read the information below and provide
the dimensions requested:
12 VOLT POWER SOURCE (RED WIRE) LENGTH ____________________________”
Power for the recorder is often sourced from a switch control panel. This panel usually contains the power on/off switch, fuel pump and ignition switches, fan switch, etc. This is one of the handiest places from which to draw the 12 volt power. In lieu of this you can source power directly from the battery, but this will require using another switch to disconnect power to the recorder.
ENABLE SWITCH (BLUE WIRE) LENGTH ____________________________”
V-Series recorders can be activated in two different methods. One is by an enable switch and the other is by exceeding a threshold event, for example a user-defined engine RPM. The enable switch is a momentary button that when depressed signals the recorder to start collecting data. If your recorder is using the threshold event method the enable switch will not be needed. In that event this wire could be used to source another digital signal, such as a wide-open throttle switch.
ENGINE RPM (BLACK WIRE) LENGTH ____________________________”
The engine RPM could also be referred to as the tach signal. On battery ignition system applications, such as those using MSD or Crane electronic ignition systems, this wire will connect to the Tach Output terminal of the ignition control box. A terminal splitter is provided in the kit so the tachometer wire can still be retained. Magneto ignition applications will be provided with a Spark Pickup Module that is installed between the magneto and its control box. This cable would attach to that module.
CLUTCH RPM (YELLOW/GREEN WIRE) LENGTH ____________________________”
The clutch input shaft RPM is monitored by a sensor that is installed into the candlestick/bearing collar inside the bellhousing. A pigtail from that sensor is routed outside the bellhousing. This clutch RPM wire will attach to that pigtail by means of a Molex connector.
DRIVESHAFT RPM (GRAY WIRE) LENGTH ____________________________”
The driveshaft RPM is monitored by attaching a split collar to the rear end yoke. The split collar, which houses two magnets 180° apart, is installed behind the U-joint flange and directly in front of the pinion seal. The gray wire of the harness will connect to the sensor that is mounted directly above the split collar. If you will also be providing the dimensions for a driveshaft split collar assembly you may link here to the instruction page for that item.
