1) Make sure you are connected to a fully charged 12v or higher battery.

2) Remove the compact flash card from the G2X. Use your PC to format the card with FAT16 or FAT32.

3) DO NOT COPY THE FIRMWARE FILE TO THE CARD AT THIS POINT. THE CARD MUST REMAIN BLANK.

4) Insert the CF card back in to the G2X and turn on the power. Wait for the GPS LED's to begin to flash. You do not need to wait to acquire satellites. Turn off the power and remove the CF card.

Both PWR and CFC stay solid and GPS will begin to flash at this point of time.

5) Now use your PC to copy the G2X_vXX.hex file to the CF card. (XX=firmware ver.)

6) Insert the CF card in to the G2X and turn on the power. All four LED's should turn on to indicate the new firmware file has been found and is currently updating.

After I insert the CF card and turn the G2X on it just went back to #4. Never got four LED.

Tried it on 2 different CF cards and got the same result.

Any thoughts?

It could be related to the voltage powering the G2X..that is usually about the only thing we see happen which prevents the unit from accepting the new firmware.

Where are you located, as we will need to get the G2X back to the CA factory, in order to reformat and flash the unit.

Thanks,
Tim

Didn't work.

Tried it again on my Truck with engine running, same result.

Looks like I need to send it back to you guys.

Do I send it to 30402 Esperanza, Rancho Santa Margarita, California 92688?

Correct. Can you call 1-949-709-5555 and ask one of our guys for an RMA number? You will also need to add that to the address, when returning.

Thanks and any additional questions, just let us know.

Tim

I am exactly at the same point:
Pwr and CF are constantly on, SAT and GPS are blinking in step 6.
Everything else i did exactly as described and it all worked.

Is it possible, that it never "reformatted" the card properly in step 4?
Any new insights on this issue?

It might have been related to the card. There are occasions when the data logger will not take firmware from the card, in which case we will need to get the unit back to the factory and flash as if it was a new unit in production.

Thanks

Tim
