RACEPAK AF-1™ Single Channel Air Fuel Sensor Package
PN: 220-VM-AF1

With the increased popularity of monitoring the air/fuel ratio of high performance engines, Racepak Data Systems has created the Racepak AF™ series of air/fuel sensor packages. Designed specifically for motorsports data acquisition, the first product available is the Racepak AF-1.

The Racepak AF-1 is a single channel air/fuel sensor package designed to be utilized with any of Racepak’s Vnet (canbus) series of data loggers. Engineered for the harsh conditions of the racing environment, the Racepak AF-1 package includes the following items:

• Heat and water resistant controller with integrated Vnet module
• Bosch LSU air/fuel sensor
• Wiring harness
• Installation instructions

The Racepak AF-1 is suitable for use with gasoline or alcohol, with calibration values available for either fuel types. The power supply requirement of 12 to 16 volts enables use with standard 12 volt or 16 volt high performance batteries. It also features a programmable 0-5 Volt analog output.

Racepak’s exclusive Vnet sensor technology provides the ability for customers to quickly and easily upgrade new or existing Racepak Vnet data systems with single or multiple Racepak AF-1 sensor packages

Priced at $359.00 retail, the Racepak AF-1 provides accurate, high quality air/fuel ratio data, essential when tuning for optimum engine performance.

I've bought this, and now trying to install it. There are 5 wires, red, black, white, green and orange. What do they go to? Thanks.

Lee,

See the below PDF. It provides instructions for the AF wiring. The red is 12v to 18V power for the sensor heater, black is heater ground, white is a 0-5V signal output and green is signal ground, for use with an external device that could use the data (something other than the RP data logger).

I've got it installed, and read a really lean A/F while on the track, somewhere around 14+, and the car ran poorly. Now I'm looking at the data of that run, and I don't see a channel for A/F, but I do see a channel for "Battery Volt".

Does a properly functioning A/F create a channel that displays "Air Fuel" or something like that? Or is it possible that we hooked up the sensor wrong, and instead of getting a good A/F reading, I instead got a battery voltage reading?

Thanks!

I should have mentioned in the previous post that the channel that says "Battery Volt" also reads consistently around 14.

Yes, there should be a Channel Button (the rectangular box with the text AF1) in the data logger configuration file. Lets go back a double check a couple of things.

After installing and connecting the air fuel sensor, did you power up the sensor heater and data logger, then connect your PC to the data logger with the Racepak serial programming cable and "update" the data logger configuration file with the new sensor?

This would be accomplished by opening the config file for the data logger, into the DatalinkII software, and with the PC connected to the data logger and the AF heater & data logger powered up, select Edit / Read Vnet Config from the main menu of the DatalinkII software. This action will add the AF sensor to your software.

At that time, you should then be able to view the AF data, download into the PC and graph the data, along with GPS Speed, g meters, etc.

By chance, when you downloaded the data, did you receive some type of error message during the download process? This would indicated the AF sensor was connected to the data logger, but the configuration file had not been updated..so the AF data was "thrown out" during the download.

Thanks,
Tim

Thanks, Tim. I asked my mechanic to install it and, no I didn't RTFM, so I missed several key setup steps.

And yes, there was an error message on 2 of the 4 runs I made after installing this. The car wasn't running properly, so I came into the pits after each run which was only a partial lap, so I just attributed the error messages to having open laps (with which I'm not familiar) versus closed laps.

Red face here....

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll try them.

I've misplaced my serial cable, so ordered another in order to be able to update the G2x config. It's been shipped and will be here in a couple of days.

Yesterday, I ran at the track, and would like to review my data (other than A/F), but if there's a chance that when I update the configuration, it would let me see all my data INCLUDING A/F, then I'll wait to pull the compact flash card out until I've got the serial cable and been able to update the config.

Will that work, or does the config have to be updated before the data will be recorded and read to the card, as I assume?

Thanks.

Lee,

The AF data will be recorded with the outings. To avoid double downloading..or unless you just want to look at the other data right now, I would wait until the config is updated, the download all the runfiles. At that time you will have all the data, including the AF.

Any questions, just let us know.

Thanks,
Tim
