Hi Tim,

RPM works great below around 4500rpm, but above that all the way to redline (6250) it goes to 0. How can I fix this?

Car has stock 92 Mustang GT EFI setup, and GMR is sensing coil wires (tries + and - same effect) with washer ontop of the metal tab. Ive tried with 2 washers on top, no washers on top. If I put any washers between the metal tab and GMR then I get no rpm at all. I really wish I could just hook up the TACH output from the ECU directly into the G2X, but that really messes up the computer, probably too much load on it?

John

I think there is another location to find a tach signal on that particular model..let me search my records and I will post the information.

Thanks
Tim

John,

I have been using a GMR tach input for about 4 years now with my G2X without problem. I have a coil and points system on a VW motor and found with a little experimentation I could get it to work well. I had the same problem when the sensor was attached to the -ve coil wire. It would read OK but once the revs got higher it would drop off to zero. I ended up mounting it so that the tip was about 4 to 5mm from the negative coil terminal. It works beautifully and has been very reliable over the past 4 years.

With the car idling hold the GMR in your hand and see how far from the -ve terminal you can get and still get an RPM signal on the dash. Mount it so that it is just inside this range and see if it still reads at higher rpm. Worth a try.

Tim, thanks.. looking forward to see if I can resolve this issue.

Davin, good suggestions, Ive moved the sensor far from the coil as it was interfering much more when it was close to the coil.

I really wish I could connect the tach output of the computer (technically from the distribuitor) but when I tried that the car ran like garbage.

Does your ignition have this ignition module
http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_li ... ostic.html

If so, you can connect to pin 6 on the TFI, with the yellow tach wire of the data logger, as this will supply the correct tach signal. Let us know if this works for you.

Thanks
Tim

Tim, Yes that is the ignition system I have.

So the pin I want to connect the yellow Racepak RPM wire to is PIP / Profile Ignition Pickup (TFI)?

Im getting conflicting information from this website that says Pin6 is IGN GND, and Pin1 is PIP
http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=6

I know if I connect racepak yellow cable to TACH (pin5 on the TFI module) the engine runs like crap

Is there a GMR made to go around say a plug wire? like a timing light? that can hook up to the G2X RPM?

We have seen other similar Ford engines / Racepak tach input work well using the PIP connection..it could be that yours has a different pin number..give that a try and see how it works.

We do not offer a clamp on type sensor (inductive) as it will induce a tremendous amount of noise into the data stream.

Thanks
Tim

Tim, thank you very much for the info.. connecting to PIP (EEC pin 56) works great! RPM is clean as a whistle
