G'day Todd

Thanks for the talk the other day, much appreciated. :)

I am a still a little confused over the two different RPM Sensors in terms of which one suites us better.

I do understand that a different cable is used to connect either type.

800-SS-PRO-5 RPM Sensor, 2-Pin
800-SS-MSC-5 Magnetic Pulse Sensor, 3-Pin

OK, so I know there is a slight price difference and the MSC is 12v powered, but not sure of any other reasons
to go one way or the other, would you please shed some light on this?

Thanks
Buddy

Hi Buddy,

Always glad to take some time to help shed some light on things.

There are a couple of major differences in the two driveshaft sensors. The 800-SS-PRO-5 is a "contact-closure" type switch, and is a relatively inexpensive way to pickup shaft RPM using up to 4 magnets on a collar at about 10,000 RPM. Beyond that frequency, the switch may have difficulty keeping up, and may result in "spiky" RPM data, or a complete loss of it altogether beyond a certain RPM.

The 800-SS-MSC-5 is a true "hall-effect" type RPM sensor, and can easily keep up with at least 8 magnets at well over 10,000 RPM. It's metal housing also makes it slightly sturdier than the plastic 800-SS-PRO-5.

On the Pro II, you can use either one for driveshaft RPM, depending on how many magnets you wish to use to pick up driveshaft RPM.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Todd

Thanks for your response very informative.

Can both of these sensors be used with two magnet collars, like you stock, for RPMs under 10,000?

Thanks a lot, I've sent you an order.
